IP Address Lookup

Enter any public IPv4 or IPv6 address to see who operates it and roughly where it is registered. Useful for investigating unknown connections in logs, checking where a server is hosted, or confirming a VPN exit location.

Tool status: Uses an external service Relies on a third-party API that may be rate-limited or temporarily unavailable.

What this tool can and cannot do

Results come from the free IPinfo Lite database (country, network and ASN only – no city, region, coordinates or time zone). The country is approximate. If that source is unavailable, the address block's public registration record is shown instead and labelled “registered country”, which is where the block is registered, not where the device is. Private addresses (such as 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) cannot be looked up because they are not unique on the internet.

Data sources: IPinfo Lite (free token) – fallback: registry RDAP

Understanding the results

Country is an estimate of where the network is located. It is usually right for home broadband but can be wrong for mobile networks, VPNs, satellite links and large corporate networks.

The ASN and organisation tell you which network the address belongs to: a home ISP, a mobile operator, a cloud or hosting company, or a business.

Troubleshooting

  • "Private or reserved address": the address belongs to a local network range and has no public owner.
  • "Registration data only": the IP database could not be reached, so the registry record is shown. Try again in a few minutes for the full result.

Frequently asked questions

Is IP lookup legal?

Yes. IP registration and routing data is publicly available. Use the information responsibly and in line with local law.

Why does the lookup show a data centre?

Many addresses belong to cloud, hosting, VPN or CDN providers. Traffic from these addresses may be a server, a VPN user or an automated service.
